It's no secret that math can be a challenging subject for some students to grasp. However, a number of studies suggest that starting the day with some quick and easy math work can help students better understand the concepts later in the day. Not only that, but morning math work can also help to improve students' focus and concentration levels throughout the day. So what are some of the benefits of morning math work? Let's take a look: 1. Quick and easy math work can help to review basic concepts. If students are struggling with a particular concept, doing some quick and easy math work in the morning can help to review the basics. Students will be better prepared to learn new concepts in future lessons by starting the day with a brief review. Additionally, morning math work can provide a much-needed refresher if students are having trouble retaining information. 2. Morning math work can improve focus and concentration levels. It's no secret that it can be difficult for students to stay focused during long lectures or extended periods of seatwork. However, studies have shown that completing some quick and easy math problems in the morning can help to improve focus and concentration levels throughout the day. In addition, by starting the day with a mental workout, students will be better able to retain information and stay on task. 3. Morning math work can help to build confidence. For many students, confidence is key when it comes to mathematics. If students believe they can't do the math, they're likely to give up before they even try. However, if students start their day with some quick and easy successes in mathematics, they're more likely to approach later concepts with confidence and a positive attitude. Additionally, students will be motivated to continue working hard by seeing improvement from one day to the next. Overall, there are many benefits to morning math work. Not only can it review fundamental concepts, but it can also improve focus and concentration levels throughout the day. Additionally, by building confidence and providing motivation, morning math work can set students up for success in mathematics both now and in the future. Mini-Math Mysteries are a fun 'game-like' one-page activity to practice math skills. They are a condensed version of a mystery and follow a simple elimination structure where students will be using their answers to eliminate possibilities. The mystery story is short (a couple of sentences to a paragraph), and unlike my regular mysteries, there are no clue messages or video hooks for these. I've designed these for educators who want something quick and short to assign to students while still keeping it fun!
