I've just finished uploading a new set of 'What's the Math Question?' prompt cards (free to download in my shop). This new set has a back to school theme, making it an ideal activity to do if you are about to start a new school year.
These math prompt cards would traditionally be printed and laminated to use in the classroom. However, this year, some of you may be teaching your class online! So, in this post, I'll outline a suggestion as to how you can still use these math prompt cards for distance teaching.
The resource downloads as a PDF file. However, you can create 'digital' cards from this download using the 'Snipping Tool' or something similar. Your computer may already have the Snipping Tool provided. However if you need a snipping tool, check out this post >> Best Snipping Tools for Windows 10 and macOS in 2020 << to find one that works best for your computer.
Once you have the Snipping Tool handy, open the PDF file, and start 'Snipping' the cards into singular cards. See steps below: Step 1. Download the free math problem prompt cards resource. Back to School Math Problems Prompt Cards - FREE

These Back to School themed 'What's the question?' cards are great to help your students create themed math word problems. Differentiate this card set by setting the challenge to make word problems involving either multiplication, division, negative numbers for higher grades OR keep it to basic addition and subtraction for lower grades.
Step 2. Open the PDF and pick the page with cards that you would like to digitally cut.
STEP 3. Open your Snipping Tool, ensure to select 'Rectangular Snip' from the Mode drop-down menu.
STEP 4. Then click 'NEW' to start snipping the cards individually. After snipping, click 'Save as' and save your card as a PNG. You will then have an individual image for a prompt card like the example below.
STEP 5. Once you have your individual digital cards ready, you can assign them via whichever learning platform you are using with your class.
Some suggestions for distance learning: These are just some implementation ideas. Do what works best for you and your class.
Whether you are going back to the physical classroom or will be teaching in digital mode, I hope this resource helps get your students thinking mathematically and creatively!
