Place Value Review Math Mystery: the Case of Puzzled Pirate -1st Grade Edition. This math activity is a fun way to review and practice mathematical skills in the classroom or at home. Ideal for spiral review, consolidation, math centers, homework, enrichment, early-finisher, or the sub-tub.
It's easy to prep! Just Print and solve! You can also go paperless with the new Google Slides option provided within your download.
Students must complete math worksheets to unlock clues. Then, use their powers of deduction to narrow down the list of possibilities to solve the mystery case!
Preparation
- Easy Prep! Print the student pages, staple or place in a folder, and your students are ready to start the math game of solving the mystery.
- Have the mystery video hook ready for viewing at the start of the lesson on an IWB, iPad or computer monitor screen.

Math Skills Required to Unlock Clues
There are five clues to crack to solve the mystery:
Clue 1: Counting objects
Clue 2: Place Value Models (up to 20 only)
Clue 3 : Comparing Double-Digit Numbers (Circle the greater number)
Clue 4 : Ordering Numbers between 1-50 (ascending order)
Clue 5: Numbers as Tens and Ones
Students must use critical thinking skills to figure out what the clue is telling them to eliminate from the list of possibilities.
There's an optional video hook that you can use to set the stage to engage!
