What are Mini-Math Mysteries?

Mini-Math Mysteries are a fun ‘game-like’ one-page activity to practice math skills. They are a condensed version of a mystery, following a simple elimination structure where students use their answers to eliminate possibilities. The mystery story is short (a couple of sentences to a paragraph), and unlike my regular mysteries, it doesn’t include clue messages or video hooks. I’ve designed these for educators who want something quick and short to assign to students while keeping it fun!

⭐Math Skills Covered in this 3rd Grade Subtraction Packet⭐

• All subtraction problems are within 1,000
• Subtraction within 1,000 (first two mysteries contain no regrouping)
• Subtracting Whole Tens from Three-Digit Numbers
• Subtraction within 1,000 WITH Regrouping
• Subtraction within 1,000 – Borrowing Across Zeros
• Missing Number: Subtraction Sentences up to 1,000
• Balancing Subtraction Equations

There are TEN one-page mini math mysteries in this pack. The mysteries can be done in any order that you choose. The first two are the easiest as they do not contain regrouping – perfect for a warm-up before diving into the other eight mysteries.

Prep:

• Print the mystery worksheet page, make as many copies as you need for your kids, and the activity is ready to go!

OR

• Click on the Google Slides link of the Mystery Worksheet you want your students to complete. Then, please make a copy for each student and assign it via Google Classroom.

Optional:

Printable awards and brag tags are provided for your Student Detectives to receive after solving the mystery.
