The Goal of the Mystery
The primary objective of this activity is to encourage reading and strengthen comprehension skills in a fun and engaging way.

• Students will practice comprehension, spelling, and vocabulary through puzzles and activities as they work to solve the clues.
• They must highlight evidence in the reading passages to support their answers.
• The discovery format involves filling in missing letters to unlock clues in the original PDF file. For a more challenging option, the B-Edition Structure (found in the alternate folder) allows you to set up the mystery like an escape room, requiring full answers instead of missing letters.
• Reading is essential to solving the missing letters in words, sentences, and statements or completing the answers in the B-Edition copy.

Each clue challenges students to think critically and use deductive reasoning to narrow down their list of locations and suspects. The final row remaining reveals the solution to the mystery of Twinkle’s lost shine!

Preparation
This is a print-and-solve activity! Everything you need, including the reading passages, is included in the download. Simply print, copy for your students, and set up the optional video hook for viewing at the start to spark curiosity and engagement.

Implementation Suggestions

• Depending on your students’ reading abilities, the activity’s difficulty may vary. To keep everyone on pace, consider reading the passages together as a class, then completing the activities to unlock clues.
• For independent work, set a timer for reading, then allow time for students to answer questions and re-read as needed.
• If students attempt the activity without reading, instruct them to highlight evidence in the text to show where they found their answers.

Differentiation Options

• B-Edition Alternative Structure: Removes the missing letter format and requires full answers. This version may require additional prep, such as setting up clue cards in envelopes or boxes. Students will need to check in with you to access each clue.
