To solve the mystery, students must carefully read the passages to complete missing letters in words, sentences, and statements, or answer questions and vocabulary puzzles. Each clue challenges them to think critically and use deductive reasoning to eliminate suspects. The final suspect standing is the culprit behind the crime!

Implementation Suggestions

• Depending on your students’ reading abilities, the activity’s difficulty may vary. To keep everyone on pace, consider reading the passages together as a class, then completing the activities to unlock clues.
• For independent work, set a timer for reading, then allow time for students to answer questions and re-read as needed.
• If students attempt the activity without reading, instruct them to highlight evidence in the text to show where they found their answers.
