⭐Math Skills Involved⭐

Students must use critical thinking skills to figure out what the clue is telling them to eliminate from the list of possibilities. There are five clues to solve the mystery:

  • Clue 1: Elapsed Time
  • Clue 2: Equivalent Fractions
  • Clue 3: Missing Addends to Make 1,000
  • Clue 4: Multiplying Single-Digit Numbers by Double-Digit Numbers
  • Clue 5: Dividing Triple-Digit Numbers by Single-Digit Numbers (NO remainders)

⭐Preparation⭐

  • Printable PDF: Easy Prep! Print the student pages, staple or place in a folder, and your students are ready to start.
  • Digital Google Slides: A ready-to-go paperless option. Students simply type their answers into the designated text boxes. (Note: Ensure students use ‘edit’ mode to enter answers, not slideshow mode).

Teacher Suggestion: I recommend pacing this activity by giving students one clue at a time. Once the whole class has completed a clue, then move on to the next clue! Time to complete this math activity will vary anywhere between 30 minutes and 2 hours depending on your students’ familiarity with the format. Bonus: Because this is for grades 2-6, you can easily “clue swap” with other grade-level versions to differentiate for your students!
