Kindergarten: Uses a simple “5W’s” format. Students complete “Who, What, Where, When, and Why” sections to solve the case.
1st Grade: This is a transitional version. It starts to look like the older grades but with a smaller, more manageable suspect list.
Grades 2-6: These versions all follow the same structure. The story and deduction process are identical, but the math skills get more advanced with each grade level.
The “Clue Swap”: Your Secret Differentiation Weapon
This is where the magic happens. Because the Grade 2-6 versions share the same story and structure, you can mix and match clues to perfectly fit your students.
Have a 4th-grade class? If you feel Clue 3 (e.g., long division) is too tough, just swap it out with Clue 3 from the 3rd-grade version (e.g., multiplication). It will still work perfectly to solve the mystery.
