7 Essential Tips to Avoid Teacher Burnout

With the great demands of teaching, it is easy to find yourself burning the candle at both ends. Do this for long enough, and it is no surprise to find yourself feeling burnt out! I think most of us find this happening often, which can also interfere with our teaching. I’ve found myself a victim of this too many times, so I put together a little list below with some tips to try to avoid teacher burnout.

The 7 Best Strategies to Beat Teacher Burnout

1. Meditate & Breathe Deeply

Deep breaths; try being mindful of the moment. Cultivating mindfulness and stress-reduction techniques can provide invaluable tools for managing demands.

2. Seek Support & Help

Share the workload with someone. Don’t feel guilty about finding easier alternative ways to reduce the stress. Treat yourself to buying some lesson plans or activities to lighten the load.

3. Plan Boundaries & Time Management

Create a structured schedule for planning and ensure to mark in relaxation time. Avoid the temptation to bring extra work home.

4. Pick Your Battles

Don’t fight every little thing that irritates you, whether it is in the classroom or staff room. Avoid conflict as much as possible to save energy.

5. Laugh & Find the Fun

Make sure you’re having fun outside of work hours, but also make sure you’re having fun in the classroom too! If you’re having fun, the students will most likely feel the same and the classroom will be a happier and less stressful environment.

6. Prioritize Exercise

Yoga, Walk, Run (something that you enjoy). Engaging in regular exercise promotes physical, mental, and emotional health.

7. Maintain a Positive Attitude

Students sense your mood and feed off your attitude. If you’re positive, chances are that your students will also catch it.
