One of the best parts of creating Math Mysteries is seeing how teachers take the story and run with it! I was absolutely blown away by the creativity at Prospect Park School. To make the Valentine’s Day Math Mystery even more engaging, they created a personalized “Special Movie” to hook their students into the case. It’s a perfect example of how a simple math lesson can be transformed into a memorable classroom event.
I love the detail they went through to make the mystery story personalized for their students. When students see their own environment or “local” stakes in a mystery, their motivation to solve the math clues skyrockets!
You don’t need to make a movie to get your students excited (though it clearly looks fun!). The Case of the Valentine’s Villain is designed to be a “plug-and-play” high-engagement lesson.
This mystery covers essential math skills wrapped in a story of mystery, heart, and a little bit of mischief.
