As a teacher and a mom, I’ve found that the secret to breaking through that anxiety isn’t more drills—it’s more marshmallows.
Before kids can master multiplication, they need to see it. Arrays (arranging objects into equal rows and columns) take an abstract concept like 3 X 5 and turn it into something tangible.
We recently spent a morning using mini-marshmallows to build our own “Sweet Treats” shop. By physically placing 3 rows of 5 marshmallows, the math suddenly made sense. It wasn’t a scary equation anymore; it was just a bakery box full of treats! When kids see math in such a tangible way, the path to multiplication becomes clear, transforming a scary concept into a solid foundational understanding.

This differentiated set allows students to draw their own treats—from donuts to lollipops—while transitioning through three levels of math:
Level 1: Purely visual drawing to reduce anxiety.
Level 2: Connecting drawings to repeated addition.

Multiplication fluency starts with skip-counting. These “Pathways to the Bakery” help students practice counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s using fun, colorful cupcake and donut themes.
Multiplication is more than just memorizing facts; it’s about logic and “math talk.” This free set of 30 sweet-treat-themed cards flips the script on traditional worksheets.
How to use them in your classroom or homeschool:
Reverse Problem Solving: Instead of finding the answer, give them the total (e.g., “The Answer is 12 donuts”) and ask them to build or draw the array that fits.
Math Center Warm-Ups: Use them as a quick “talk-about-it” prompt to start your math block.
Scavenger Hunts: Hide the cards around the room and have students find them and write a matching multiplication sentence for each treat.
Memory Match: Have students match the visual array cards to their corresponding “The Answer is…” prompts.
By giving students 30 different scenarios, you’re ensuring they get the repetition they need to build fluency without the boredom of a standard drill.
