The chaos of the holiday season is officially upon us! How do you sneak in meaningful math practice when all your students want to do is sing carols and talk about Santa?
This is where games save your sanity.
I created this Christmas Math Game Freebie to be a fun, engaging review tool. It will keep your students motivated and focused while they work on essential math skills.
This is the key to making this game work in any classroom! The game comes with six levels of playing math card sets (and you can select which levels/skills you want to include).
For Differentiation: You can create mixed groups or assign different card sets to different tables, allowing your entire class to solve the same game while working on skills appropriate for their level!
For Review: Use a mix of cards to quickly review skills taught earlier in the year.
This is a print-and-go activity, but it does require minimal preparation to last for years!
Print out the contents of the packet.
Laminate the board game page.
Cut and laminate the gift tokens and playing math cards.
Have dice and counters ready to go with the game. (More detailed instructions are provided within the download)
Players take turns to roll the die and move the number of spaces rolled.
The player must read what they must do when they land on a square (e.g., lose a turn, pick a card, etc.).
If the player must pick a card, he/she must pick the math card at the top of the pile and answer the math question given. If the player answers correctly, he/she receives a gift token.
The first player to reach Santa’s Sleigh on the game board with 10 Gift Tokens in their possession wins the game!
The game includes printable gift tokens in both color and grayscale.
Pro-Tip: Skip the Prep & Use Tangible Tokens!
To save precious time cutting and laminating, I highly recommend using physical tokens you already have on hand. It makes the game more tactile and engaging!
Suggested Gift Tokens:
Mini cube blocks or snap cubes
Classroom counters or pom-poms
Small holiday erasers or stickers
[The classic choice] Small candies or holiday chocolate kisses (if you dare!)
